Murphy is a native of Abia State in Nigeria where his mother was also a restaurant and bar owner. He has been in Dallas for over 20 years and is the former owner of Club Zodiac and Moet Shandon.

He spent a few years in California where he was the owner of Leading Edge Productions and Aviation Services. As an aircraft technician, he recently completed a tour of duty in Iraq for the Department of Defense.
